I,m so glad to receive your letter, in which you wanted to know about the Dragon Boat Festival in China.
I feel honored to tell you about it. Celebrated on May 5th in the lunar calendar, it is a folk festival having a history of more than two thousand years. Also, it is one of the most important festivals in China.
As for the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, there are many beautiful legends, of which the story about Qu Yuan is most widely accepted. Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet who loved his country deeply, drowned himself in the Miluo River after his country’s being defeated. To honor him, people in China hold various activities every year, including eating zongzi and dragon boat racing.
I hope you can come to China to enjoy it for yourself.

In China, there are fifty-six national flowers in full bloom. Different regions and different nationalities have their own unique folk customs. Different kinds of holidays, different clothes, different food, different people... There are many traditional festivals in our big China: Mid-Autumn festival, Dragon Boat Festival, double ninth festival, Lantern Festival, qingming festival... On so many festivals, my favorite is the Dragon Boat Festival. The word "Dragon Boat Festival" is a remarkable word, its name is a household name, and the legend associated with it is unknown, no one knows.
There are a lot of customs about the Dragon Boat Festival: eating zongzi, racing dragon boats, planting mugwort... My favorite is eating zongzi, of course!
The fifth day of may is the Dragon Boat Festival. Early in the day, the streets and lanes are filled with fresh zongzi. On this day, people eat zongzi, so whether its a store or an ordinary family, it is always ready to make zongzi, and prepare glutinous rice and stuffing. This is not, the early morning zongzi is like a conjuring bag, cooked. At this time the anxious I look at the steaming zongzi would be noisy to eat, and the father will patiently coax to say: "first wait a moment, use cool water to pull again to eat." Finally can eat, I cant wait to strip away leaves, the beautiful, the sticky reed exposed, bite is really see a smooth, three two after eating, I usually eat, who made it so sweet and delicious!
There is a popular folk story behind the sweet dumplings: legend has it that in ancient times, there was a patriotic poet called qu yuan. He has great knowledge and outstanding talent. But the court was despised by the untouchable, and no one appreciated his talent. Not only that, the court was corrupt and incompetent. Qu yuan could not bear the corruption of the court and jumped into the miluo river to himself. His story has been handed down from generation to generation. In order to commemorate him, people made zongzi in the river to prevent the fish from eating qu yuans body in the river.

Qu yuan, who is a poet, minister and statesman in ancient China, played an essential role in Chu country. His wisdom and knowledge of which King Huai thought highly is blamed for the envy from other officials. In order to keep Qu yuan from disturbing their proposals, they said some gossips to King Huai.
The king trusted them, changed his mind to Qu yuan and recalled his position. Having heard this news,Quyuan was exceedingly depressed, screaming into sky and sank himself in Miluo Lake. Villagers were heart-broken when they heard this dreadful thing. For the sake of protecting him from being bitten by fish or dragon, villagers poured Zong zi,eggs even Realgar wine into the river. Since then, each individual sculls the dragon boat and eats Zong zi for memorizing this great and patriotic poet.

Then comes the annual Dragon Boat Festival, which commemorates Qu Yuan. On this day, people will miss this patriotic poet by eating zongzi and racing dragon boats.
Today, my father is going to take me to the dragon boat race. I jumped three feet high with joy. Dad took me off. Along the way, the flowers nodded gently to me, the grass smiled sweetly at me, and the breeze kissed my face. My heart was very happy.
Soon, we came to a river. WOW! There are a sea of people here, colorful flags are flying and drums are deafening. We managed to squeeze in. Look, there are three small red flags on the river. According to the elders, the rules of dragon boat racing are: two dragon boats cross the small red flag at both ends of the river back to back. If you win the small red flag in the middle first, you will win. Suddenly there was a whistle and the game began! The red dragon and the green dragon ran out like arrows at the same time. The morale of the warriors of the two dragon boats was high. With the sound of drums and gongs, they rowed the oars neatly and uniformly. Soon, red dragon and green dragon came to the corner almost at the same time. At this time, the audience couldnt help shouting;come on! Come on!"
Finally, its the most wonderful moment - Green rush. The players who play drums on the red dragon and the green dragon play drums with one hand and stretch out the other hand on their side, ready to grab the small red flag in the middle. Finally, because the drummer of red dragon was experienced, he grabbed the little red flag one second faster. The audience on the shore couldnt help cheering again.
After watching this wonderful dragon boat race, I think that as long as we have the spirit of courage and unity and struggle like the Dragon Boat warriors, any difficulties can be solved.

The Dragon Boat Festival comes from the story of qu yuan, a patriotic poet qu yuan out a good idea, can the rich qiangming but not adopted by the king, but was kicked out of the palace. He was so angry that he jumped down the gangluo river. The local fisherman paddled the boat to the bottom of the bamboo tube and gave it to qu yuan. Later, they changed the rice from the bamboo tube to the zongzi, and changed the boat to the dragon boat to commemorate qu yuan. The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated every year in honor of the patriotic poet qu yuan. Our family is very impressed with qu yuan, so we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival every year.
The traditional custom of the Dragon Boat Festival is eating zongzi. Therefore, our family has a really good zongzi -- my mother. So every year, during the Dragon Boat Festival, our whole family can eat many zongzi. My mother used to say that the leaves of the reed are the most fragrant. So she wrapped the rice dumplings with the leaves of the reeds. Before her in the package dumplings, ready to work: the boil, reed leaves in the water the prepared glutinous rice and jujube wash separately, the preparation work is done. When the reed leaves were cold, she began to make zongzi. Her first three leaves, put the two leaf dish, put a slice of their, caught in the middle of the three leaf roll into a round pheasant body appearance, glutinous rice, put on the inside, between a few dates, finally the leaves tied up with lines, a rice dumplings wrapped. She was so rich and fat that she was like an old Buddha sleeping. After she has wrapped the dumplings, steam them in a pressure cooker for 40 minutes, then put them on for another three or four hours, and then you can eat them! Although the ingredients of my mothers dumplings are extremely simple, the dumplings are fragrant. If you smell the smell, you will stir up your appetite. As long as you have zongzi in front of your table, you will eat them. Therefore, whenever I eat zongzi, I always eat a lot of food, probably because the dumplings are too much my taste! When it comes to my taste, I dont know what my mother zongzi "secret", each package dumplings is always delicious, appetite, make the person admire Christmas is about to drip, had to eat a lot.
The Dragon Boat Festival besides the need to eat zongzi, also, of course, dragon boat!
I most like to see is the condition of dragon boat racing, dozens of sailor hand paddles, run out whole body with the hand to paddle, high water gesture gas drum roll, hard knocks the regular drum up a bit. "Come on, come on! The cheerleaders of the field were filled with the sound of thundering, Shouting and Shouting, and the sailors were forced to row more. The spectacle of the dragon boat race is so spectacular, so fierce, that it is unique and is a symbol of the Dragon Boat Festival tradition.
Eating zongzi and racing dragon boat RACES, these two traditional customs, together weaves a hot and noisy Dragon Boat Festival.

"Have Ling and horn, have heart and liver, be poor and cook for half a life." What do you guess the riddle is? By the way, its zongzi!
On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, my mother got up early in the morning and began to make zongzi. My father was responsible for calling my family and inviting them to our house to eat zongzi. Looking at my mothers busy "vigorous", I asked my mother what kind of filling is zongzi? Mother said "red hot jujube stuffing". I saw my mother wrap a jujube in rice dumplings and finally wrap it with leaves. After wrapping them, mother put them in the steamer one by one. After a while, the rice dumplings are steamed. There are two pots in total! The air was filled with the smell of zongzi. Mother looked at her watch and said, "its time!" I took a deep breath and exclaimed, "Wow, it smells so delicious!"
At this time, there was a knock at the door. When I opened the door, I saw that Grandpa, grandma, grandma, Grandpa and sister came! My father brought the big table and put it in the living room. My mother put the zongzi in the middle of the table. We each have a stool, a pair of chopsticks and a bowl, ready to eat. But I cant eat now, because the elders are still washing their hands. If the elders dont eat, our younger generation cant eat. After a while, the elders finished washing their hands. We sat together and began to eat the zongzi made by our mother.
I saw that grandma began to eat, so I couldnt wait to eat. I took a big bite and said, "hot!" Mother said, "dont worry. Theres more. No one is robbing you!" After eating for a while, my sister came and said, "Ill take a picture of you and send it to your circle of friends!" Dad turned his head and said, "ah? Take pictures again! I dont want to take pictures." Mother said, "take a picture? I dont have make-up!" I said anxiously, "my sister patted me, I look good!" Actually, my mouth is full of glutinous rice grains. So my sister snapped a picture and sent it to the circle of friends point by point. I asked my sister, "are you finished? Ill continue to eat!" My sister nodded, and I gulped down the dumplings I hadnt finished yet. I have to say that the dumplings made by my mother are really delicious!
Eating zongzi is a custom in Chinese civilization. I like eating zongzi, and I prefer eating zongzi made by my mother!
